Mumbai, July 19: Israel-based RIT Technologies, developer of real-time cabling management solutions, has signed a distribution agreement with Nelito Systems Ltd to market `PatchView', a combination of software and cabling hardware that continuously monitors and reports on all wiring at a station and thus helps solve cable problems.Priced at Rs 3.5 lakh approx, it is a physical layer network managing system that provides full connectivity changes in the network from a central management console. It is meant for computer and telephone users.
According to RIT's regional marketing manager Michael Lasry: "If a network engineer takes 20-30 minutes on an average, this system will help solve the problem in 3-4 minutes. Hence, it is a time-saving solution."
The PatchView system is ideal for 200 nodes and above. Says Nelito's senior manager-marketing (networking products) Vinayak Bhandare: "Usage of Patch View is justified only when we look at a customer base of 200 and more. A number lesser than that and theproblem can be sorted out manually."
The PatchView system comprises three main components:
RIT's SMART line of patch panels -- over 100 models of intelligent data communication patch panels suited to almost any wiring system and application.
The PatchView Scanner -- an electronic scanner mounted in the wiring closet. Each SMART Patch panel is connected to the scanner. The scanner collects the patching information and reports it to the PatchView management station over LAN. Alternatively, the data can be sent via modem or RS-232 connection.
The PatchView Management Station -- an MS-Windows software package that interprets and presents the patching configuration to the system administration. This user-friendly software allows the system administrator to interact with the system in a straightforward and intuitive manner, utilising simple mouse "clicks" on full-color, realistic windows.
A user's guide to PatchView
Instead of walking halfway across the campus to troubleshoot a cabling problem, you can get all the information you need at your desk from your PatchView system. Click on a site icon to view a representation of the racks installed at that site. Realistic graphic representations show each wiring rack in full detail, with all defined patch panels, scanners and equipment.
Click on a patch panel to zoom on it. For further details on a specific port, click on the port to display information about the user, the outlet or network equipment connected to that port, as well as user's name, room number, wall outlet ID etc. You can also get details such as equipment model and equipment port ID.
