Sintex eyes Rs 14,000 cr furniture market

Arpan Mukherjee
Calcutta, June 5: Sintex Industries Ltd, which has already diversified into the manufacture of pre-laminated furniture from extruded PVC sections, launched its products in the eastern part of the country on Friday. The company, which is already the largest plastic tank manufacturer in the country, is now eyeing the Rs 14,000-crore plus domestic furniture market.According to Sintex wholetime director SB Dangayach, the company has planned a two-pronged marketing strategy to sell its PVC furniture. It will either sell pre-laminated (popularly known as prelam) sheets through retail outlets or sell them as furniture.Officials said the furnitures are free from termites and borers, require no maintenance, painting or varnishing. The prelam sections are available in various designs and finishes like teakwood, chill wood, granite and marble, they said.
