Kumarmangalam to meet CMs in Sept
Union power minister P Kumarmangalam yesterday said that he would hold a meeting of chief ministers and power ministers of northern states in New Delhi in the first week of September to sort out inter-state issues relating to power sharing and partnership in the Bhakra Beas management board. He said chief ministers and power ministers of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and senior officials of the Chandigarh union teritory would be invited to attend the meeting in a bid to clinch these issues.
Centre blocking major power projects -- Patel
The centre is blocking major power projects like Cogentrix on the issue of more transparency which is hampering progress in states like Karnataka that are in dire need of power, according to Karnataka chief minister JH Patel. Commenting on the visits of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu to Bangalore scouting for investment in his state, the minister said that Karnataka cannot be run like Andhra Pradesh.
Hegde unsure of meeting 20% export target in wake of sanctions, Asia crisis
Union commerce minister Ramkrishna Hegde on Saturday admitted that his confidence of meeting the export target of 20 per cent in the current fiscal has been shaken in the wake of developments after the Pokharan tests and continued financial crisis in south-east Asia. However, Hegde made it clear that the target can be achieved if exports will be given a national priority.
