  Prabhu eggs finance ministry not to scrap tax holiday for exporters
The commerce ministry has urged the finance ministry to continue with the 100% tax deduction allowed for exporters under Section 80-HHC of the Income-Tax Act, 1961. Analysts said the move comes in the wake of projected setback for exports.
  Public-sector giants set to tap debt market
Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL), Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) and National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) plan to raise Rs 885 crore from the debt market through five seven year bonds. The coupon rates on these instruments have not yet been finalised. All three debt floats have been rated AAA (SO) Crisil.

ECGC in talks with banks to set up export factoring venture
The Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) which is embarking on a major restructuring exercise is scouting for partners for a foray into export factoring business. The exercise will take place in a phased manner over a period of two years.
Firms resist bid to patent tea production
Domestic tea majors are fighting a bid by George Williamson Co Ltd of UK to patent the entire tea manufacturing process, right from the plucked leaf to 20kg packaged chests. The UK-based company which has a stake in BM Khaitan's Williamson Magor runs George Williamson Assam Ltd -- a tea company. The patents office is expected to give its decision within a few months.

Power ministry may rope in NTPC for Yamunanagar project
With the exit of Israeli company, Eisenberg, from the Rs 3,000-crore, 700 MW Yamunanagar power project in Haryana, the Union power ministry is exploring the possibility of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) as the new joint venture partner.

EU backs compromise in Poland steel row
The European Commission has agreed to compromise with Poland over steel import duties on condition Warsaw put forward a serious restructuring plan for its steel industry. The restructuring of Poland's steel industry is considered one of the main tasks facing Warsaw before it joins the EU. Brussels has linked the duties row to the restructuring.
