Dhaka calls for New Delhi's cooperation in global tenders

Kohinoor Mandal
CALCUTTA, February 12: The jute goods producers of India and Bangladesh must cooperate to stop unhealthy practices like price cutting while participating in international tenders, a senior Bangladesh government official said.

AKM Rezaur Rahman, who is the joint secretary in the union ministry of jute of the People's Republic of Bangladesh said India and Bangladesh, which are the two main jute producing nations of the world, must work out ways of serving their mutual interests.

He is heading a delegation of the country's jute industry to a two-day workshop on "establishing an international standard specification for jute bags used in the packaging of food grade materials". The seminar has been organised by the International Jute Organisation.

"At present, we have noticed that while participating in international tenders for supply of jute goods, mostly sackings, producers from these countries indulge in unhealthy trade practices. Price cuts to win orders is an oft-repeated practice and it must bestopped. We must have some sort of an understanding between us," he said.
