BJP to "debar" foreigners as PM if voted to power: The BJP, if voted to power, will amend the Constitution to bar a foreigner from occupying the post of the country's prime minister, the party general secretary Pramod Mahajan declared on Thursday. He said the BJP's ally Samata Party president George Fernandes was the first to moot a proposal for an amendment to this effect and it was fully supported by Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.Nanded sees contest between BJP, Cong: Nanded, home constituency of former Union minister SB Chavan, is witnessing a fierce tussle in the Lok Sabha elections between Congress candidate Bhaskarrao Khatgaonkar, Chavan's son-in-law, and the BJP candidate Dhanajirao Deshmukh. 30 cases of violation of model code: The registration of offences against candidates for violation of the model code of conduct has acted as a deterrent in curtailing instances of defacement of public property and other offences. So far about 30 cases of violation of model code have beenregistered in the megapolis alone, a state election official said.

Trafalgar House rights issue: The Rs 40.96-crore rights issue of Trafalagar House Construction India Ltd, a 51 per cent subsidiary of the UK-based Kvaerner group, which opened on Janaury 19, will close on February 17. The issue of 20.48 lakh shares of face value of Rs 10 will carry a premium of Rs 190. The parent company has received the FIPB clearance to increase its stake to 74 per cent from its present 51 per cent through subscription to the unsubscribed portion of the rights issue.

Life insurance cover: PS Palande, director of National Insurance Academy, said that only 22.5 per cent of the population was covered under life insurance, while approximately 22-23 per cent of general insurance of industries are so far covered by the insurance sector. He was speaking at the inauguration of a seminar on "Insurance -- cost management and cost savings"organised by the Pune Chapter of Cost Accounts of The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWA). PD Parkhi, former chairman, ICWAI, said that it is possible to reduce premia and cover the costs of cover and risk from a cost-benefit angle.
