Daniel Craig made it no secret last year during the promotion of Spectre that it would be his last film as James Bond. The actor had made headlines when he’d rather “slash my wrists” than do another installment in the spy series. However, it looks like Craig might be playing James Bond once more if the series’ producer Barbara Broccoli has any say in the matter.
Currently, Craig has taken to the stage with a theatre production of Othello with David Oyelowo. Broccoli also happens to be producing the play. According to a source, Barbara is all set to “ask the actor to reprise his role for the upcoming Bond 25.” The source added, “Daniel thinks of himself as a ‘serious actor,’ and he wants to stretch his artistic muscles. And Barbara really believes in his talent. For her to do this (play) for him is a gift. Of course, she wants him back. This is going to entice him to make another Bond movie.”
Broccoli and Craig worked together to revive the James Bond franches and went on to deliver 2006’s Casino Royale, the somewhat tepid follow-up Quantum Of Solace and 2012’s hit Skyfall. During the filming of Spectre, Craig suffered various injuries and had said that the filming of the movies was taking a toll on his mental and physical health. He later backtracked on his comments, saying he would consider returning to the franchise after a lengthy break.
While news of the beloved actor’s possible return might be great for fans, it may not be so welcome for the many actors who were lined up to takeover as the face of the popular spy series. According to a report in News 18, some of the frontrunners in the Bond race were Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Michael Fassbender.
