Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’ is expected to break the opening week box office collections record set by the superstar’s 2013 release ‘Dhoom 3’. PK’s business was Rs 155.54 crore in the first six days and as per reports it had an excellent an showing on the Christmas Day, which could pull it to the top of the all time Week 1 grosser list.
Though the exact figures are not in, industry insiders have put the ‘PK’ box office collections for Week 1 at over Rs 180 crore. This year’s two biggest films – Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ made Rs 164.09 crore and Rs 157.57 crore respectively in the first week.

This kind of success could result in ‘PK’ being the biggest film of 2014, surpassing Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ (Rs 233 crore) and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ (203 crore). The film industry is optimistic that Aamir Khan’s latest will be one of the biggest box office successes and analysts feel ‘PK’ will generate humongous business and surpass previous Bollywood records.
Overall, ‘Dhoom 3’ made Rs 284.27 crore in the domestic box office and if ‘PK’ maintains momentum with no major releases in the next few weeks, then sky is the limit.
