Parched trailer: Radhika Apte has established herself as one of the best character actors in the business in Bollywood today and with Parched, she is out to cement her position further. This will be a difficult movie for viewers to sit through as the brutality and the gory details are laid out in full view and the pain of the women involved can actually be felt by those watching. However, the film offers much more than Apte and this comes in the form of Surveen Chawla, Sayani Gupta, and Tannishtha Chatterjee.

Parched trailer holds true to the theme and in a very short frame of time conveys the violence, the pent-up desires, the desperation of the characters involved, their hurt and anger in graphic detail. The overall effect on the viewer is one of awe. Parched is an Ajay Devgn co-production and true to form, he has sought not to hide even one gruesome detail.

Parched is all about simple rural women in Rajasthan who face male backlash at every stage in their life even though they obey them fully and look only to serve. But since that does not save them from the violence, they look to escape to a better life. And who are ‘they’? An abused wife (Radhika Apte), a much-in-demand prostitute (Surveen Chawla), and 2 village girls.

While the tale is dark and gloomy, the uplifting theme in the trailer is one of breaking away from the shackles of a physically, morally and intellectually degrading past and making an attempt to reach a better state of being. That in itself is an uplifting message that women in India desperately are craving for. Watch Parched trailer below:

Parched release date is 23 September. However, Censor Board has slapped an ‘A’ certificate on it.
