After enjoying a smashing run at the box-office, Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet Ek Prem Katha finally took a hit on Wednesday as its collections went down by as much as three times. The film had earned Rs 20 crore on Tuesday but managed to earn just Rs 6.50 crore on the next. However, it has taken the movie’s overall collection to Rs 89.95 crore which means that Khiladi Kumar will have to wait a bit longer before entering the 100-cr club with his latest movie that no one had even dreamed would do as well as it has done – it has already ensured it gets mentioned in the most successful movies of 2017 list. However, given that the film earned over Rs 6 crore on a working day, the makers won’t be too disappointed either.
Toilet Ek Prem Katha 6th day box office collection was confirmed by business analyst Taran Adarsh who revealed the official figures on his Twitter account. “#ToiletEkPremKatha is a SMASH HIT… Fri 13.10 cr, Sat 17.10 cr, Sun 21.25 cr, Mon 12 cr, Tue 20 cr, Wed 6.50 cr. Total: ₹ 89.95 cr. #TEPK,” he wrote. Given that Toilet Ek Prem Katha was competing against Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal, it has done very well indeed, even though it has also ensured a big setback for SRK.
Overall, this year hasn’t been that great for Bollywood movies. Some of the big budget films like Tubelight, Raabta and Jagga Jasoos have bombed at the box-office with Jab Harry Met Sejal facing a similar fate. Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan faced much criticism because of their miserable performances in movies like Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal which collected Rs 119.26 cr, Rs 62.60 cr respectively (till last reports came in).
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s performance in Toilet Ek Prem Katha is being praised by all. The movie which had the benefit of an extended weekend due to the Independence day holiday had earned a whopping Rs 20 crore on the fifth day. The good news for Akshay Kumar is that no big budget film is releasing this weekend either which will allow him to dominate the ticket windows for another seven days.
