Simran box office collections: Since past few months, Bollywood ‘Queen’ Kangana Ranaut is in the news more because of her personal issues than her films. From controversy on nepotism in Bollywood to her recent public revelations of her personal life, she has been giving some tough times to many B-town celebrities. Amid all this buzz, the actress came out with her new film – Simran. Released today, the film seems unable to attract the audience to venture into theatres on its opening day. According to the initial reports, Simran opened on a disastrous note with the occupancy rate of the movie in its morning shows limited to a meager 12 per cent, as per Bollywood Hungama. Also, the film has received less than appreciative reviews. While Kangana’s performance has come in for praise, the flaws in the film have wreaked havoc on the BO. Movie critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh also hinted at the bad response of the audience to the new release of this week. On his Twitter account, Adarsh shared, “A new Friday… But the story remains the same… New film releases open [morning + noon shows] to dull response.”

The Hansal Mehta directorial Simran is a movie based on the story of a 30-year-old Gujarati girl who is divorced but is undaunted by the challenges she faces. Like Queen, this film also surrounds the character of Kangana. However, it would be interesting to see if it gets the same love from the audience in the coming days. After a below average opening of the film, will it eventually emerge as the leader is the question of the hour. Much will now depend on word of mouth boost. In fact, that is the only straw that the film is left clutching on to.
Meanwhile, the other release to hit the screen today, Farhan Akhtar’s Lucknow Central also failed to attract the audience to the theatres. It has also witnessed a bad occupancy rate (also in the region of 12 pct) in its morning shows on the first day of its release, as per Bollywood Hungama.
