Veteran Bollywood actress Reema Lagoo died earlier today around 3 AM after suffering from cardiac arrest in Mumbai. She was 59. She was admitted to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital following complaints of chest pain. Her son-in-law, Vinay Waikul confirmed the news of her death and said, “She was complaining of chest pain so we took her to hospital around 1 AM. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15 AM. She was perfectly fine and had no health issues…so it is really shocking for all us that she is no more with us”.

Born Gurinder Bhadbhade on February 3, 1958, she was the daughter of Marathi stage actress Mandakini Bhadbhade. Lagoo was a dedicated stage performer who started her acting career almost as soon as she completed school. Along with performing on stage, Lagoo acted in Hindi and Marathi films but gained popularity only when she started portraying the role of a mother in Bollywood movies to well-known actors. Her first such role was in the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak where she played the character of Juhi Chawla’s mother in 1988. Her memorable roles were in movies where she played mother to Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), Shahrukh Khan’s mother in Yes Boss (1997) and Kal Ho Na Ho(2003), Kajol’s mother in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Salman Khan in Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999) and Abhishek Bachchan’s mother in Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003).
Reema Lagoo was perhaps the most celebrated mother in Bollywood. She shared screen space with actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Anupam Kher, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, Lagoo has played a plethora of roles ranging from character roles to the actor’s mother. She was married to Marathi actor Vivek Lagoo but the couple separated later. They have a daughter Mrunmayee Lagoo who is also a stage, film actor and she is married to Vinay Waikul.
