It seems the magic of Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh could not attract the public to the theatre in huge enough numbers as the box office collection of their new film ‘Phillauri’ witnessed a dip in collections at the start of its first week. It started with a collection of Rs 4.02 crore on the first day of release (Friday), Rs 5.20 crore on Saturday and Rs 6.03 crore on Sunday, the collection fell to Rs 2.02 crore on Monday, limited its earning to Rs 17.27 crore in four days in India. Based on the story of a friendly ghost, the movie was heavily promoted by Anushka Sharma and team. Before its release, the movie was taken as a “profitable venture” by its makers as it had already recovered Rs 12 crore by selling the satellite and music rights out of its overall budget of Rs 21 crore. The film has collected Rs 7.87 crore in its opening weekend in overseas.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, before the release of Phillauri based on a friendly ghost, also expected it to make “hat trick” for Fox Star Studios after the success of Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 and Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania. After the release, Adarsh tweeted, “#Phillauri takes a dip on Mon… Fri 4.02 cr, Sat 5.20 cr, Sun 6.03 cr, Mon 2.02 cr. Total: Rs 17.27 cr. India biz.”
