Home Ministry has said that there will be no ban Pakistan-based artistes who wish to visit India for performances and participation in movies, CNN News 18 reported on Friday. The statement comes at a time when there is a rising conflict in the industry over allowing the screening of movies featuring Pakistani actors. Before this, Mumbai’s Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association, which own around 400-500 screens, announced that it will not release any movie featuring Pakistani artistes. Association chairman Nitin Dhar said that no movie featuring Pakistani actors and actresses will be released in theatres. The decision gives a direct jolt to Karan Johar directed Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which is scheduled to release on Diwali, and features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
The association has said that such movies will not be released until the situation between India and Pakistan normalises. Meanwhile, Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani has criticised the notion of banning movies already passed by the censor board. While some actors have decided to speak against participation of Pakistani actors, others chose to speak in favour of them.
