Eleven days after Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IIMP) put temperory ban on Pakistani actors from working in India over their refusal to condemn terror attacks here by Pakistan based militants, Fawad Khan was reportedly approached for the lead role in Shyam Benegal’s film, ‘Yeh Rishte Hai Pyaar ke’. The 34 year old was approached by Harsh Narayan who is to direct the film.

IIPM’s temperory ban came in the wake of Uri terror attack where 19 of Indian soldiers were killed by terrorists.

Harsh Narayan has been working for over a decade to build peaceful relations between India and Pakistan by organising cultural exchange programmes across the border. Narayan approached the actor for the role of a musician who along with a friend embarks on a journey across India and Pakistan and in the course, discover himself.

Talking about the film, Narayan said that there could not be a better time to put out a film that explores love and peace and promotes humanity.”

Narayan referred to Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Saadat Hassan Manto both of whom wrote explicity about the suffering of people during and after 1947 partition.

However, there is no confirmation that Fawad Khan would sign the film. Responding to a statement attributed to him, Fawad Khan in a recent Facebook post denied that he made any hate comments and said that ” I pray and wish like many others that together we can build and live in a more peaceful world. I believe we owe it to our children who will shape our tomorrow.

This is the first time I have spoken on the matter. Please disregard any other words attributed to me during this time because I have not said them. I thank all my fans and fellow artists from Pakistan, India and people in general all over the world who have shown continued support for their belief in love and understanding to unite a divisive world.”

According to India Today, Fawad Khan may say yes, but that is unlikely to happen till the simmering terror tensions end. This more or less leaves things totally ambiguous.

Just Shame on Shyam Benegal. He is out to provide food and fodder to those people who are just here snatch the work of our people. There are many young people who are auditioning in Mumbai to great a break in Movies. You are not interested to hire or employ them but you are more interested in hiring a boycotted stani refugee who is not interested in making any statements that is emanating from his own country and hurting our country so badly.

Why doesn't such efforts happen from the other side? Why don't we hear the stanis making a movie on cross border bhaichaara? Will such a movie even sell in stan during such times. The so called peacemakers from our side act as if the Indian governmtent attacked stan n created mayhem there by promoting terrorism for which later the peaceniks have to put a balm on. All the efforts of soft power happening for so many years has not given anything substantial...so much so that the beneficiaries of these peace efforts dont even voice there displeasure on terrorism on our soil promoted by their govt....let alone condemning their authorities.
