Padmaavat box office collection: Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Padmaavat after being in the eye of storm for a couple of months finally released on January 25 and to the makers solace the film is also performing well. The film is not only doing an exponential business in the domestic market, but it has etched some huge numbers in overseas as well. The overseas box office collection of day 10 has arrived and in Australia, the film has earned 117,201 USD which is equivalent to Rs 75.17 lakh. In New Zealand, the Deepika Padukone starrer has made 28,599 USD which is equivalent to Rs 18.34 lakh. Padmaavat in the domestic market has made Rs 176.50 cr and is also being speculated that the film will enter the Rs 200 cr club by the end of this weekend. The film is also on its way to surpass the lifetime collection of Baajirao Mastani which had made Rs 184.2 cr. Taran Adarsh tweeting on the successful collection of the film wrote on Saturday, ” Padmaavat begins Week 2 with a BANG… Collects in double digits… Eyes ₹ 35 cr+ in Weekend 2… Will cross *lifetime biz* of #BajiraoMastani today [Sat]… Will cross ₹ 200 cr tomorrow [Sun]… [Week 2] Fri 10 cr. Total: ₹ 176.50 cr. India biz.”

The film was embroiled in severe criticism and protests after Karni Sena members alleged that the historical fact in the film was distorted. Karni Sena extensively protested the film in several states and also imposed a ban on the screening. The makers had to knock the Supreme Court door following which Padmaavat got a green signal to release pan-India. Inspite of the apex court order, the film was not screened in states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Recently internet went abuzz with reports of Karni sena withdrawing their protest against the film. But the Chief of the Rajput outfit later clarified that he had not taken such decision and the rumours were baseless. This week is very crucial for the film since on February 9 Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan hits screen which might pose a big competition to the box office earnings of Padmaavat.
