PadMan box office collection day 5: PadMan witnessed a terrific weekend collection but was marred by Monday earnings where the Akshay Kumar starrer earned just Rs 5.87 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had earlier stated that the weekdays are going to be crucial for the film in terms of box office collection after a strong response over the weekend. But Monday has been pretty slow for the film which is in desperate need of an urgent boost in momentum to cross the Rs 100 cr mark. So far, the film on Friday earned Rs 10.26 cr, Saturday 13.68 cr, Sunday Rs 16.11 cr, Monday 5.87 cr. In overseas, PadMan minted $ 2.31 million (Rs 14.84 cr) in the opening week. Taran Adarsh tweeting the film’s collection wrote, ”#PadMan crosses ₹ 50 cr mark… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr, Sun 16.11 cr, Mon 5.87 cr, Tue 6.12 cr. Total: ₹ 52.04 cr. India biz.”
Based on the challenging life of Coimbatore-based social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, PadMan tells an inspiring tale of an underdog who bears it all in order to make a hygienic pad for his wife. The story of a man obsessed with periods and menstrual hygiene was well-perceived by the critics and the film ended up with good reviews across the landscape. Starring Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor apart from Akshay, PadMan beautifully captures the nuances of a man’s frustration and his undying determination inspite of facing severe criticism from the society.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Akshay Kumar has tried to bring movies related to social issues into the mainstream cinema. He impressed everyone in 2017 with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which earned over Rs 209 crore worldwide and the same was expected from PadMan too. While there seems to be no stopping for Padmaavat — the film has crossed Rs 250 cr and cruising its way to the Rs 300 cr mark — PadMan, which deferred its release date to avoid a clash with this epic drama might have done no good to the Akshay starrer.
