Padmaavat box office collection: On January 25 this year, Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat hit the screens across India and abroad. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed movie Padmaavat received appreciation from every major critic. This love and appreciation for the movie Padmaavat translated into big numbers at the box office. The Ranveer Singh starrer which is almost at the end of the third week has managed to fetch a gross figure of more than Rs 300 crore at the box office in India. More accurately the movie has managed to bag Rs 325.38 crore (gross). Not only this, the movie has been accepted and much appreciated at the overseas box-office as well. The movie from the overseas box-office has earned Rs 159.15 crore. With the bumper response at the domestic market (gross) and gross box office collections from overseas market, the worldwide collection for the movie Padmaavat at the box-office now stands at Rs 484.53 crore. The movie is just a little over Rs 15 crore shy of the Rs 500 crore mark.
Padmaavat ever since the movie came to limelight has faced much criticism from Rajput group, especially Karni Sena. The actors concerned were even threatened. Multiple groups threatened to chop off Deepika Padukone’s nose and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s head if the movie was released. Padmaavat, which was earlier set to release on December 1 last year, was deferred.
In the movie Padmaavat, Ranveer Singh plays the role of ruthless ruler Alauddin Khilji while Deepika Padukone plays the role Rani Padmavati. The movie also sees Shahid Kapoor essaying the role of Maharana Rawal Ratan Singh. The movie is about how Khilji is captivated by the legendary beauty of Rani Padmavati. It also shows how Maharana Rawal Ratan Singh tackles the ruthless Khilji. In terms of box-office collection, the movie has created many records. Padmaavat was the first Indian movie to release in IMAX 3D. And on the opening weekend, it fetched more than Rs 29 crore from all the 12 IMAX screens in India.
