Padmaavat box office collection prediction on day 1: The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Padmaavat featuring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles is all set to hit the theatres on January 25. It has been embroiled in a controversy for over a month and the film is finally going to be released now, but only after the filmmakers made several changes, including a changed title. While the release of the film that was supposed to hit the silver screens on December 1, 2017 has been delayed due to the ongoing controversy over its storyline, it has received a lot of publicity. Now the only thing left to see is whether Padmaavat on its opening day will be able to beat the all-time top opening day collection of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Happy New Year.’
Farah Khan’s Happy New Year, starring King Khan and Deepika Padukone was released on October 24, 2014. The film that had a star cast that consisted of actors like Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani and others had managed to earn a whopping amount of Rs 44.97 cr on its opening day. At the end of its opening weekend, it had crossed the 100 cr mark to earn Rs 108.86 cr in just three days. By the end of Week 1, the film had garnered Rs 157.57 cr and its overall collections stand at Rs 203 cr. It is only a matter of days and we will find out whether Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat will manage to become the all time top opening day grosser or not. The reasons that may well boost Padmaavat box office collection on day 1 past the SRK movie is the controversy surrounding the movie. It has ensured that even those people who would usually not watch such a movie, will go ahead and check it out. Also, Padmaavat is a solo release. There is no competition at all as Akshay Kumar has withdrawn his PadMan movie from release on same date and Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai is on its last legs after weeks at the BO.

Earlier in the day, the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta, appearing for state of Rajasthan and argued before Supreme Court to once more try and derail the release of the movie. He said, “I am not saying that allow me to ban the film, I had moved the Apex Court for certain modification of the Apex court’s earlier interim order”. After which the Supreme Court three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra observed, ‘people must understand that there is a statutory body, and also we have passed an order’. The apex judicial body then refused to modify its earlier order on Padmaavat. It added that ‘States must ensure that law and order prevails.’
Meanwhile, the Cinema Owners & Exhibitors Association of India (COAEI) has written to the Home ministry and sought sufficient security outside theatres showing Padmaavat. The association has also advised theatres that they should show the film after ensuring proper security.
