In an unfortunate development, noted Malayalam actor Sreenivasan who is known for his work in movies like Poochakkoru Mookkuthi and Sandhesam was admitted to a hospital in Kochi after suffering a stroke. The news was confirmed by the hospital authorities late night on Tuesday. A spokesperson of Kochi’s Aster Medicity Hospital said the 61-year-old actor was brought to the hospital last night after he suffered a stroke. He is under observation in the ICU and his condition is stable, the spokesperson said.
Known for his on-screem exploits, Sreenivasan is also an acclaimed Malayalam screenwriter, filmmaker and producer. He rose to fame with his comic roles in the industry and has acted in over 200 films in his career. He has been a part of some big projects with superstar Mohanlal. His popular movies include Poochakkoru Mookkuthi, Sandhesam, Aram + Aram Kinnaram, Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu and Vellanakalude Nadu among others.
Sreenivasan has also written movies like Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala. He won a National Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues category for Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala. Srineevasan’s elder brother Vineeth is an actor-filmmaker-screenwriter while his younger son Dhyan is a popular actor in the Malayalam film industry.
Sreenivasan was working on a number of projects before being hospitalised. He will next be seen in Aravindante Athithikal starring Vineeth Sreenivasan in the lead role. He will also be seen playing the lead role in Paviyettante Madurachooral, which has been scripted by himself.
In September last year, Sreenivasan was in the news, after he came out in support of his colleague Dileep, who was in judicial custody for his alleged role in the abduction and sexual assault of a Malayalam actor. After this, Sreenivasan’s house was vandalised, with black oil being smeared on both sides of the front gate and on the name board of the house.
