Did you like ‘Kala Chasma’ song from Katrina Kaif and Siddharth Malhotra starrer movie ‘Bar Bar Dekho’? The Punjabi song is being played in almost all the parties and wedding ceremonies these days. But do you have any clue about who wrote this song? He is a constable from Kapurthala, Punjab. Shera Singh,43, is glad that his song has made it to Bollywood. However, the lyricist has a little clue about how his song got featured in the movie and why wasn’t he informed about anything at all. In a conversation with The Indian Express, he said that he was contacted by Jalandhar-based Angel Record Company which told him about a Mumbai firm’s offer to play his song at an inaugural function. He said that he received an amount of mere Rs. 11,000 in return. After a few days, he saw his song being played on television.
However, he doesn’t mind being short-changed. His only grudge is about not getting any recognition for work originally done by him. “No one from the film industry called me to Mumbai during the music launch or screening of the film. I just wanted to go there and let everyone know that a person from a small village in Punjab has written the song,” Shera was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. Shera claimed that he wrote the song when he was 15 year old and studying in 9 standard. He also claims that it was him who approached many singers at the time with his songs for release. “Amar Arshi (singer of the song) then took the song ‘Kala Chashma’ and performed it at a function in England. The writer-cum-cop says that he had paid tribute to his village through this song. “If you listen to ‘Kala Chashma’ carefully, in the last stanza I have mentioned my village Talwandi Chaudhrian’s name,” the cop was quoted as saying in the report.
