Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan-starrer Katamarayudu opened to overwhelming response across the world. While the film that released last Friday, debuted at the Indian box office, earning more than Rs 40 crore, the Tamil film with huge hype and expectations, earned over Rs 72 crore in India alone in its opening weekend, says the Indian Express! Despite garnering mixed reviews from the critics and fans, the film is keeping the cash registers ringing at the box office! The film now is fast nearing the coveted Rs 100 crore mark. Trade analysts estimated that the movie will create more records in the coming days.

Katamarayudu is an official Telugu remake of superstar Ajith Kumar’s Tamil movie Veeram, that was released in 2014. It is the story of an influential and powerful man in a village in Rayalaseema. With actress Shruti Haasan in the lead role, the movie has reportedly already earned Rs 100 crore overall after adding satellite and distribution rights too. This is the second time Pawan Kalyan and Shruti Haasan have come together after Gabbar Singh which gained good numbers at the box office.

The movie also stars other prominent actors including Siva Balaji, Ajay, Kamal Kamaraju and Chaitanya Krishna in important roles. The film follows the story of his efforts to protect his girlfriend and her family from an imminent danger. The audience found the film entertaining and showed big thumbs up, while the critics also gave positive reviews and gained strong word of mouth.
