Kabali box office collections: Rajinikanth mania has, according to analysts, powered the latest release by the megastar to a mammoth Rs 35 crore and counting – with some shows starting as early as 3 a.m., the takings were expected to be huge and the filmmakers would be extremely happy at the moment with their success. All the results were yet to filter in and no one is divulging the final figures for day 1. Kabali also stars Radhika Apte as Rajinikant’s love interest and Dhansika as daughter.
With huge crowds at the turnstiles and people across all walks of life queuing up to watch Thalaivar on the big screen, the cash registers were ringing non-stop, not to mention the fact that advance bookings themselves have already fattened up the earnings magnificently. Opening day occupancy rates have been in the 80-90% range on average and most cinemas in the south have been running to full houses. In the north it fluctuated from 50-70%.
The Kabali figures are being powered by the fact that as many as 12,000 screens across India, the UK and Malaysia, screened this latest release. And this kind of success has made industry analyst Taran Adarsh to take to Twitter and post this reaction: “Countdown for hugely-awaited #Kabali begins… UNPRECEDENTED craze for #Rajinikanth starrer… All set for an EARTH-SHATTERING start at BO.”
However, box office collections are not the only revenues that Kabali makers are depending on to power their profits. Already the large deals they have struck with corporates and other entities have reportedly generated as much as Rs 200 cr and some are even saying Rs 300 cr!
At the same time in foreign locales, where the south Indian community is present in large numbers, the figures are gradually being revealed by the people concerned. In the US especially, where Rajinikanth is currently staying, the figures have been more than flattering.
Reportedly, Kabali has surprisingly broken the record created by another south Indian mega-movie Baahubali and Bollywood icon Salman Khan’s recent release Sultan, which is still running in most theaters.
Here is what TamilBoxOffice1.com @TamilBoxOffice1 tweeted, “#Kabali Reported Premier BO – North America – $1,922,995; UK – £93,835; France – 41,280 €; Total: $2,091,326 [₹ 14.03 Cr].”
Earlier in the day, it had tweeted: “With $1.45M Premier Gross so far #Kabali’s officially All-Time #1 Premier grosser in the US beating #Baahubali @superstarrajini”.
Some other good news for Rajinikanth and Kabali filmmakers had come from the film’s US distributor Cine Galaxy, which tweeted, “#Kabali @ $1,317,288 as of 4 pm EST Heading towards a record premiere day.”
Reportedly, even if we go by these earlier figures, it is clear Kabali has emerged as the clear winner – Bahubali earned $1,382,076 from its US premiere while Salman Khan’s Sultan brought in $786,194.
Among the many reactions on Twitter, the one by filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar really stood out as he took a stance that was quite against what most critics have been saying. He tweeted that he flelt, “unprecedented euphoria” while watching the movie.

Not to be outdone in the praise department, Rajinikanth’s ator son-in-law Dhanush took to Twitter too to post this message: “Make way. The king arrives. Time to celebrate. First day first show. Superstar ‘Neruppu Da’.”
These are humongous numbers and the best part for filmmakers is that the opening weekend is almost upon us, and over the next 2 days the extent of this success will really be apparent. Get ready to get ‘shocked ‘n awed, Thalaivar style!
