Akshay Kumar released the trailer of the upcoming Jolly LLB 2’s trailer on Twitter today. “Jolly aa gaya. Ladega uska sabse bada case,” he wrote. Akshay takes up the mantle of the hapless lawyer who will do anything to win a case. Just like the 2013 Jolly LLB, the film promises to be full of laughs. In fact, the trailer opens with a scene of Jolly in court, questioning a witness, saying, “Kya aap bata sakte hai ki Salman Khan ki shaadi kab hogi?” We’re not sure about the context, but as always Akshay delivers his lines with ease and, like the people at court, we’re all laughing.

We’re treated to other scenes of Jolly riding around on his scooter (which also has his profession and mobile number at the back) and his wife Pushpa, played by Huma Qureshi. Annu Kapoor appears as Jolly’s nemesis, a relentless veteran lawyer with 20 years of experience. The second half of the trailer feels more like a typical Akshay Kumar action film rather than the follow-up to the 2013 flick that starred Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi. The trailer takes a decidedly darker turn as the main case, which is apparently based on true events. revolves around a murder. Moreover, it looks like Jolly gets in on the action this time around, as we see him being chased by goons. At one point, we even see him get shot twice in the back.

With Akshay as the leading man, it would be a waste not to have some action scenes in the film, but hopefully director Subhash Kapoor won’t entirely ditch the satirical approach he had towards the country’s legal system in the first film. For fans of the original flick, Arshad is rumoured to make a special appearance in Jolly LLB 2, which is set to hit theatres on January 10.
