When former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa passed away at the age of 68 on Monday night at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, the country was thrown into a state of grief. Condolences and tributes poured in from all fields, from politicians to actors. The death of ‘Amma’ hit superstar Rajinikanth really hard and he was teary-eyed when he visited Rajaji Hall in Chennai on Tuesday where the late political leader’s remains are being kept. Rajinkanth was accompanied by his wife Latha, his eldest daughter Aishwarya and his son-in-law Dhanush. A video shows the actor clearly distressed as he bids a final farewell to Jaya, pressing his forehead against her body in reverence and even wiping away his tears that were flowing endlessly.
According to a report on Times Now, the 2.0 actor also asked Sasikala Natarajan, who was present at Rajaji Hall, about Amma’s final moments. The 2.0 actor also expressed his grief on Twitter, writing, “Not just Tamil Nadu but India has lost a brave daughter. I pray to God to rest her soul in peace.” Other actors who have given their condolences on her passing included Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Dharmendra, who worked with Jayalalithaa in her only Hindi film Izzat. The AIADMK leader’s state funeral will be held at 4:30 pm. The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was first admitted in the hospital after complaints of fever and dehydration in September. She remained there for over 70 days as her health complications worsened and she passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest late Monday night.
