Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) that was released on October 19, 1995 and with it ‘Raj’ aka Shahrukh Khan won over the hearts of many across the country with his character. The film is still rated as one of the best ever movies by the actor. Directed by veteran Yash Chopra’s son Aditya Chopra, the movie has been running in Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir for the last 22 years and it even created a record for having screened the same movie for 1009 weeks since its release in 1995, up until February 19, 2015. But shockingly, for the first time in all these years, the show of the film was cancelled for the premiere of another Bollywood film on July 19. This other film is none other than, a biopic on gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar who was known as the ‘Queen of Mumbai.’

Some might call it another first for Maratha Mandir as after two decades a new film was played on the screens of the iconic theatre. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Haseena Parkar is set to release August 18, 2017 and actor Shraddha Kapoor is playing the role of the ‘Queen of Mumbai’ while her brother Siddhanth Kapoor is playing the role of gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

According to an HT report, the executive director of Maratha Mandir Cinema, Manoj Desai while talking about the premiere of the movie Haseena Parkar said that the makers of the film thought it would be a good idea to launch the trailer at Maratha Mandir as Parkar lived in Dongri, which is very close to Maratha Mandir. However, he insisted that no injustice was done to DDLJ as he had run the idea by Yash Raj Films before saying yes and they agreed to it.

Haseena Parkar was the younger sister of crime lord Dawood Ibrahim and she died of heart attack on July 6, 2014. Her biopic is a timeline of her life, her journey from a young girl to a mother of four.
