India is returning with another hit Broadway musical ‘Aladdin’ to the Indian stage next year in summer. The new production, which promises to be a breathtaking spectacle filled with magic and comedy, will be executed through a licensing model. Disney India, along with the licensee, will bring the best of local talent for the Indian production of Aladdin on board. Talking about the venture, Vikrant Pawar, head live entertainment and local content studio, Disney India, said in a statement, “After the unprecedented success of our first ever Broadway-style musical, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, we are thrilled to announce our next offering – Disney’s Aladdin. Our endeavour has always been to develop world-class entertainment that is locally relevant.

“We feel Disney’s Aladdin has a universal appeal and the musical will bring the magical story alive, making it truly memorable for our audiences here.” Originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the show features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman, three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice. In 2015, Disney India’s locally-produced ‘Beauty and the Beast’ stage musical enchanted the audiences with the first ever Broadway-style musical in the Indian live entertainment industry.
