Dilwale vs Bajirao Mastani box office collections: The fight is between a megastar Shah Rukh Khan and rising female star Deepika Padukone and the irreverent Ranveer Singh. And it did not turn into a no-contest bout either. While the champion is ahead, the newcomers are not giving an inch in the tussle for theatregoers attention as well as the contents of their wallets, so to speak. Both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani have breached the Rs 100 cr mark, but tellingly it is courtesy the foreign collections and not just based on the India take.
The opening weekend is behind us and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale won the initial round against Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra’s Bajirao Mastani Rs 89.11 cr to Rs 61.17 cr, the dust has more or less settled as far as the initial fan frenzy is concerned. Now, with the working week on its way to conclusion it is clear the SRK starrer is falling more. To be sure, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer Dilwale had a number of positives going for it, from presence of megastar himself to greater number of screens booked, but what has provided Bajirao Mastani a leg-up is the presence of Deepika Padukone who has a number of Rs 100 cr movies to her name, aside from Ranveer Singh and a ticking storyline in a period thriller. On top of it, the movie got good mention in reviews.
When the movies hit theatres, while Dilwale got Rs 21 crore (day 1), Rs 20.09 crore (day 2) and Rs 24 crore (day 3), the film managed an India take of Rs 65.09 crore and with foreign take, the tally ballooned to Rs 89.11 crore.

What is now going to decide which movie rules, or whether both go head-to-head, is word of mouth and who has a larger fan following as well as which movie received a bigger marketing push.
For all intents and purposes, Bajirao Mastani leads in word of mouth respect at least as its take has been rising from first day, while Shah Rukh Khan’s stuttered on Saturday – it fell from Rs 21 crore (day 1), Rs 20.09 crore (day 2).
