The Diwali week, audience were gifted two big ticket movies, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) and Shivaay directed by Karan Johar and Ajay Devgan respectively. The heavily star studded Karan Johar’s ADHM had Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma and Pakistan’s Fawad Khan and while Ajay Devgan’s Shivaay featured only Ajay as the main protagonist, both the movies made brisk business.
No matter how much critics may have given mixed reviews which tends more on the negative side, much to their dislike Shivaay is one of it’s kind movie. The film remains one of the most awaited for the year 2016 and there is no denying that Ajay Devgan have given the best Diwali gift to his audience with this masterpiece. Movies like Shivaay perhaps are made once in a decade in bollywood.
A comparative look at the first week collections of both Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay, will tell us how the two movies fared. Collecting Rs. 80.19 cr in its first week ADHM ranks as the fourth highest opening week grosser preceded by films like Sultan that collected Rs. 229.16 cr, M. S. Dhoni – The Untold Story that collected Rs. 94.13 cr, and Rustom that collected Rs. 90.9 cr.
Simultaneously, Shivaay that collected Rs. 70.41 cr ranks as the eight highest opening week grosser following Housefull 3 that collected Rs. 80.1 cr, Airlift that collected Rs. 78.5 cr and Fan that collected Rs. 71.5 cr.
