Zoya Akhtar’s next project Gully Boy ran into a hurdle when Ranveer Singh opted out of the project. The gap, however, was quickly filled by Varun Dhawan, who will play the part of a street rapper from Mumbai. The plot details the character’s rise to fame from a Mumbai chawl to success in the music industry. Rumour has it that Gully Boy is based on the life of rappers Divine and Naezy. The latter will also write the lyrics for the film along with Gulzar.
Ranveer was interested in the film, but reports now say it did not fit in his schedule. Gully Boy’s dates clashed with that of Ranveer’s other project which is being directed by Shimit Amin. It’s a shame, really! We love seeing the Bajirao Mastani actor take up different and quirky roles and him opting out will deprive his fans of a really fine treat. Ranveer is currently busy filming Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. Once he completes that and Shimit’s film, the actor will start working on Rohit Shetty’s project in 2018. That means he’s booked for the next two years! But really! Is anyone as busy as that?
According to a report in DNA, Ranveer and Zoya first became friends when they collaborated on Dil Dhadakne Do. While they wanted to do a second film together, fate had other plans. A source said, “Ranveer loved the subject, but finally had to let go. He tried his best to work out the dates for Zoya’s film for the last three months, but Amin’s romantic drama produced by YRF, begins shooting next year and is a romantic drama. The female lead of the film is a newcomer. Ranveer’s first loyalty is with YRF, hence when it was obvious he had to choose between Zoya and Shimit, he opted for his mentor Aditya Chopra’s production. Varun has liked Zoya’s story and is trying to work out his dates for the film, which starts next year.”
