At just Rs 17.2 cr, Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Shamitabh’ box office collections caught in slow lane

Amitabh Bachchan, Akshara Haasan and Dhanush starrer 'Shamitabh' hasn’t performed well with its box office collections...

Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Shamitabh' box office collections may have disappointed, but Akshara Haasan, daughter of iconic actor and director Kamal Haasan and sister of actress Shruti, has received the best debut possible for an actor.

The indefatigable Amitabh Bachchan, Akshara Haasan and Dhanush starrer ‘Shamitabh’ box office collections failed to take off even though the movie received fairly good reviews from critics (‘The Man’ himself got rave reviews for an outstanding performance), clocking just Rs 17.2 crore at the end of week 1 (12th Thursday).

R Balki’s ‘Shamitabh’ movie was released last week, and also stars Dhanush and newbie Akshara Haasan in leading roles.

The reason behind there being very little returns in terms of collections, is explained by trade analyst Vinod Mirani, who said, “Balki comes up with novel ideas always, but the execution of the film gets messed up”.

“The drawbacks were right from a long-winding script to the execution and editing. Instead of cashing in on the idea, the film tries to cash in on Amitabh Bachchan’s image. There was no curiosity for the film hence it had a weak opening day. It did have a slight improvement on Saturday and Sunday.”

Take the opinion poll and tell us what you think of Mr Majestic Amitabh Bachchan’s performance:

In ‘Shamitabh’, Amitabh Bachchan has scored majestically, and there is even the extra lure of newbie Akshara Haasan, but the crowds are still not flocking to theatres to watch the movie, affecting its box office collections hugely. (Bollywood Hungama)

“The film ended its opening weekend with box office collections of around Rs 13 crore, which is not enough to help it recoup its high price,” he said.

Akshaye Rathi, exhibitor and distributor said, “Shamitabh hasn’t performed as expected. I guess this is a very niche film and so it is not appealing to the masses.”

However, the film was released in only 1100 screens pan-India and looking at the size of release it is doing fairly okay, Rathi added.

The near future does not look very either as this is a Valentine’s Day week and romance is in the air and this one does not really have anything for couples. Also, ‘Shamitabh’ is facing fierce opposition from new releases, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Roy’ and Gurmeet Ram Rahim Insaan’s ‘MSG: The Messenger of God’.

Dumb analysis... If the collections had drop on next days, you can blame the execution of film... If opening day itself no collection means amitabh is no more a star in north... I feel really sorry for you sir... Come and do a Tamil film.. We will give you a better opening...

Amitabh Bachchan's present star value is below par. It is just on a case to case basis depending upon how good the particular film is. Inspite of all the hype Dhh is no crowd puller in North. Akshara Han is a fair, short and ugly actress. Quite repulsive. Lessons for Balki.

The movie was a flop because rubbish actors such as Dhh and Akshaara were starring beside him. Amitabh alone can bring profit to a movie. But many did not want to waste money watching Dhh and Akshaara. When will directors and producers understand that these 2 rubbish actors do not have any fan following in bollywood and will only make the film a flop

I totally disagree with Mr. asik . Contribution of three khans is nothing barring Aamir Khan. All stupid films with no sense in it. And box office collections do not always decide the quality of film.

A actor like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, no need any comments already proved by a UK channel he is # 1 actor in the world.... Nobody can compare him as a actor or as humble human being. Like other actor he does not wait to release his movie during some Indian festival like Diwali or Christmas or EID etc...etc... Most of the actors movie release date during this festival holidays.....

Nowadays trade analyst praise your movies only after getting money, if the movie is bakwas than also they will praise and give 3 or 3.5 star because they received money from producer or actor, like that their business is going on.....
