Priyanka Chopra on Instagram yesterday had posted about the heavy downpour in Mumbai which had brought city life to a standstill. She expressed her concern over the heavy showers which lashed the financial capital of the country and threw life entirely out of gear. Priyanka in a post told people to be safe and also raised a plea for stranded strays. She shared an Instagram video saying, ”Torrential Mumbai Monsoon. The wrath of nature. Pls be safe everyone. Pls allow strays into dry spaces..”
Besides Priyanka Chopra, many celebrities took to their Twitter and Facebook accounts and addressed their concerns about the rain. Schools and colleges had been asked to remain shut by authorities though the local train services had resumed from the morning. Mumbai on Tuesday recorded 297.6 mm rain in nine hours (8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.), higher than any 24-hour rain in August in a decade.
As the operations at Mumbai resume to normalcy, a day after heavy showers in Maharashtra, the Deputy Director General (DDG) India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the rain has reduced in the past 8 to 10 hours and the situation is likely to be the same for a few hours more. Until now at least six people have been reported dead in the heavy showers which hit the maximum city on Tuesday.
