The first look of the much-awaited 2.0 features Akshay Kumar surrounded by what appears to be a cluster of crows – not much of a surprise given that the actor’s look in the film was likened by many to that of Birdman. What might actually catch many fans by surprise is that Rajinikanth is nowhere to be found in the poster. The monochrome teaser was shared on Twitter on Wednesday by Rajinikanth, who will reprise his role as the AI cyborg Chitti. The star captioned the photo, “#2Point0FirstLook.” The film, which is the follow-up to 2010’s immensely successful Enthiran (or Robot), will see Akshay playing the character of Chitti’s nemesis.

While the film, which is being helmed by Subaskaran, is being made in Tamil and Telugu, it will eventually be dubbed in Hindi as well. Buzz around the film began almost a year ago when the Housefull actor tweeted a photo of him and Rajinikanth together last December, writing, “Ending the year on a high note! Super excited to be a part of Robot 2 with the one & only @superstarrajini sir!” And the production team of 2.0, which spent a staggering Rs 40 crore on the marketing of the film, seems privy to the excitement of the fans. In fact, Raju Mahalingam, the creative head from the production team was quoted saying, “We are making 2.0 keeping the global audience in mind. It is being made at a cost of around Rs 360 Crores, making it India’s costliest film ever. We want to make it a grand event and create a huge buzz around the film which will be released in the second half of 2017.”

While a lot of fan-made posters of 2.0 have flooded the internet, the first look of the two stars together will only be revealed on November 20 in Yashraj Studios, Mumbai and Karan Johar is set to host the star-studded event, which will see the entire cast of the film in attendance.
