The second song from Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal’s soundtrack, Dhaakad, was released today and this new number gives us the dose of girl power we all needed. We’re all familiar with the idea of women’s wrestling, but this song shows Geeta Phogat (played by Zaira Wasim) in her early years tossing male contestants left and right during matches. Now that’s definitely a win for the ladies. A source, who explained the title’s meaning, said, “Dhaakad means powerful and the makers want to dedicate this song to the daughters of India. The song showcases the young girls wrestling with heavily built men and winning over them with ease.”
The music video features scenes of the PK actor as Mahavir Singh Phogat accompanying his daughter Geeta to the wrestling grounds. As Geeta wins one match after the other, the song shows how the match’s viewers come to accept her and eventually, even cheer her on. Dhaakad, which is composed by Pritam and sung by Raftaar, is sure to change how we look at women’s sports once we’ve seen this song – just like the match viewers in the video.
According to a report by DNA, the song then goes on to show Geeta’s journey from local matches to state championships and finally, the wrestler all grown up (played by Fatima Sana Shaikh) to the Commonwealth Games. It’s tough for anyone to not get excited about the upcoming film, which also stars Sanya Malhotra and Sakshi Tanwar, by the end of the thrilling 2-minute song.
Aamir, who attended Geeta Phogat’s wedding in Haryana over the weekend, shared the news of Dhaakad’s release on Twitter, writing, “Hey guys, hope you like our 2nd song of Dangal. Proud to present my Dhaakad girls! Love. a.”
