It’s no secret that Aamir Khan’s weight gain and subsequent weight loss for Dangal has been quite drastic, even the actor says so. And now, a behind-the-scenes video details the actor’s transformation, which can be somewhat disconcerting at times. For his role of Mahavir Phogat, Aamir gained and lost 28 kilos. In fact, his weight loss even has its hashtag of #AamirKhanFatToFit, check out some of the tweets:

Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari thought it might be a good idea for Aamir to start filming as a younger version of the wrestler because the star had already slimmed down for PK and Dhoom 2 and then gain weight later or even wear a body suit. Aamir, however, wanted to gain weight first and film the larger chunk of the movie (roughly 80%) before losing the weight. He knew if he did it the other way around, he’d have no motive to lose the extra weight later and he wanted to be in shape when he had to promote Dangal after filming. He also rejected the body suit because he felt it wouldn’t seem authentic.

While there were some perks to gaining weight such as eating some rich and tasty food, Aamir said it was an uncomfortable process. He couldn’t bend over to tie his shoelaces and he even admitted to having some trouble breathing. His wrestling practice suffered as well because of his weight.

After his ordeal, what advice does Aamir have for fellow-fitness freaks? “If you have an ultimate goal in mind, make sure you don’t look up to see it. If you look at Mt Everest and think about where you have to reach, you’ll simply give up. But if you look down and just focus on every step, and push yourself to take just the next step, you’ll reach your goal eventually,” he explained. Of course, others may not have the plus point that Aamir did. Namely, his son Azad enjoying hugging his dad more because of the extra kilos, according to a report in The Quint.
