The thumping majority for BJP as in the assembly polls shows that people of Uttar Pradesh want development in the state. Demonetisation as was predicted has not gone against the BJP, on the contrary has been an advantage. This shows that BJP’s promises to turn around the state as far as economic development is concerned has paid off. It is become clear that people are willing to overlook caste and other considerations for development. So now that BJP has a clear majority after 26 years, it must now prove that they can turn around the state and make it one of the more developed states. People expect to waive off loans of small and marginal farmers and distributing laptops to the youth amid assurances of working for the all-round development of Uttar Pradesh.

The message is loud and clear, people of Uttar Pradesh expect development of the state which has been lagging since last many years. People expect that the loses of past 15 years be made up and thrust be given to infrastructure and development. BJP should also now give a special focus on drought-hit Bundelkhand region of the state, that is seen as one of the most scantily developed area. Since Uttar Pradesh has been left behind in the race of development, people expect BJP to hit the ground running with its development projects.
As the party had promised, they expect to create a fund of Rs 150 crore for agriculture development in the next five years and repackage some of the developmental schemes specifically for Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh also expects that the law and order is restored so that the developmental agenda can be carried forward. Promises to upgrade the Dial 100 of the state police to ensure police help in 15 minutes all over the state. Pending payments of sugarcane farmers, and ensure that the sugar mills hand out a post dated check right at the time of delivery.

On the law and order front also, BJP must crack down on corruption as well. Its manifesto entails the creation of special task forces to weed out mining mafias, land mafias, and all other organised crime nexuses. Amit Shah even vowed to immediately fill all empty posts in the police force. It must be realised that no real development is possible without restoring law and order.
