Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Saturday accepted the defeat in the assembly elections of 2017 and said that the people did not accept the Congress-Samajwadi party alliance who came together for the purpose of development and for them the losing also teaches a new lesson. “Cong-SP ne vikas ke liye alliance kiya; logon ne usse accept nahi kiya. Jeet ka ghamand nahi, haar bhi ek nayi seekh sikhati hai,” he said. He also lashed out at BJP who always talked about Congress-free nation and said “Those who are talking about a nation free of Congress should retrospect. Congress is an integral part of India.”

With BJP’s loss in Punjab, Surjewala also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and said, ” BJP Punjab mein haar rahi hai aur Goa CM apni seat se haar gaye; kya yeh Modiji ki leadership ki taraf ishara nahi hai? (BJP is losing from Punjab and Goa CM lost from his seat, does this not points out Modiji’s leadership?)”
Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to form government in the hill state as the party is won 222 seats out of 403 which is a historic victory. The 2017 Assembly Election results is out today and all eyes that were set on Uttar Pradesh where Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party is faced a tough challenge from Bharatiya Janata Party despite joining hands with the Congress. The last time BJP managed to get the 2/3rd majority was in 1991 when it got 221 seats at the height of Ram Janam Bhoomi movement. In 2012, Samajwadi Party got a clear mandate by winning 224 seats while Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party finished second with 80 seats.
