UP elections 2017: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and former Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha has tweeted that he was surprised to find that his name was not in the list of 40 star campaigners during the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections campaigns. However, instead of generating a controversy, he played it down and said that it must be only for his party’s good and welfare. He also said that he wants only good for the party.

The former Bollywood star popularly known as ‘Bihari babu’ in a statement to ANI said, “Was surprised my name wasn’t there in campaigners’ list but it must be for party’s good,I also want good for party.”

In a statement to PTI, Sinha told, “Shatrughan Sinha who has for long served as star campaigner for BJP in elections in UP and is well versed with every nook and corner of the state has been kept out of the list of campaigners for the party in UP.”

When he was asked on the inclusion of TV actor-turned politician Smriti Irani who is the present Union Textile Minister; Sinha said, “In the eyes of leadership she and others in the list must have been very important…I have nothing to say; people will decide.” He also added that he maintains cordial ties with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD President Lalu Prasad.

The second-term Lok Sabha member from Patna also added that, “I am a product of healthy politics practised by Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan to follow an ideology and not hate any person.”

Interestingly, this is not the first instance that the star has been overlooked earlier by the BJP during rallies and campaigns. In an earlier instance, taking note of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Bollywood star of 80’s said, Sidhu might have felt left alone during his stint at BJP, and thus has joined Indian National Congress (INC).

Earlier, in a session in the Bihar Assembly, after the defeat of BJP, Shatrughan Sinha said that BJP lost the Assembly elections in Bihar only because they overlooked him and some other party members in Bihar.

The Bollywood star recently went to Sai Baba temple to inaugurate a Silver Throne.
