Jaswantnagar constituency assembly election winner 2017: Mulayam Singh’s brother Shivpal Yadav wins. In the last one month, Uttar Pradesh witnessed high-decibel election campaign and roadshows as all major political parties tried their best to lure voters. While the Assembly polls in the state were touted as a litmus test for the SP government, PM Narendra Modi-led BJP emerged as a strong competitor against the ruling Samajwadi Party. During the campaign, UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav managed to build his image as a ‘leader for youth’ and gained a huge vote bank in several regions of the state. His ‘kaam bolta hai’ campaign also became popular in rural as well as the urban areas. However, there was also a little anger against him because of the law-and-order problems the state. In a three-way contest, Mayawati-led BSP had cemented itself as one of the lead contenders in the state. However, the party was believed to be behind in terms of vote bank apart from some particular communities. Even the votes of Muslim community were supposed to have gone in favour BSP in some pockets.
