Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is in a mood to spice-up the Congress election campaign in Gujarat with his sense of humour. Lately, tweets by Rahul Gandhi not only attacked the BJP government and its policies but also seek to tickle the funny bones of his followers. His most recent target was Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Rahul targeted Raje on her decision to bring an ordinance that prohibits investigation without prior sanction against judicial officers and public servants. Gandhi reminded Raje that India is no longer under British tyranny. He took to Twitter to post this message, “Madam Chief Minister, with all humility we are in the 21’st century. It’s 2017, not 1817.” In another tweet by him, Rahul Gandhi showed his support for the Tamil movie Mersal (which had scenes critical of the current GST model) but he didn’t forget to take a jibe at PM Modi while doing this. He wrote, “Mr. Modi, Cinema is a deep expression of Tamil culture and language. Don’t try to demon-etise Tamil pride by interfering in Mersal.”

A few days back, when the US President Donald Trump tweeted about starting to develop a better relationship with Pakistan, Rahul Gandhi sarcastically asked PM Modi to hug the US President – PM is known for his hug diplomacy with leaders he gets on well with. He said, “Modi ji quick; looks like President Trump needs another hug.” He also made fun of promises made by Modi writing, ‘Main ab aapko unki agli line batato hun, 2025 tak Modiji Gujarat ke har ek vyakti ko chaand par jaane ke liye rocket denge (I will now tell you his (Modi’s) next promise, by 2025, Modiji will give a rocket to each person in Gujarat to go to the moon.’ He also took on the Modi government after India’s rank slipped in the Global Hunger Index using a poem by Dushyant Kumar, which says, “If you are hungry, be patient! So what if you have no bread? Hunger is a hot topic, these days Of debate in the Delhi Durbar!”
