Arun Jaitley, Union minister of finance talking about BJP’s victory in Uttar Pradesh, said that government’s economic planning was very good and whatever it did made sense both from planning and equity point of view. Speaking on demonetisation he said many important commentators have complimented the government for having courage to implement demonetisation. At the end of the day you cannot have a shadow economy running in the country. Even though, the opposition used it as election ploy, its the people who have voted for demonetisation. He also said that parliament is a political platform so it is okay to debate issues, but to take demonetisation as a campaign issue and mislead the people was not right. Punjab saw good development in last 10 years under Badal, 31 per cent vote share was still good.

The finance minister also said that he knew that they were winning. He said, ” I knew it was going to be a big win. Manipur is a delightful experience, from 0 presence to forming a government is a huge achievement”. In UP, Mayawati did nothing to expand her base. Congress has to decide whether it wants to be a structured party or a crowd around a dynasty.
Though demonetisation was seen as a big hurdle in the way of PM Modi as it was said that many farmers and small traders would punish him for the hardship they faced post November 8. Surprisingly, as voting day approached, the BJP pulled the dissenting farmers towards itself promising loan wavers for them and several schemes in the union budget. And Prime Minister Narendra Modi was right as he said that it will be safffron Holi in Uttar Pradesh for the BJP. With his party securing a massive victory in the Assembly elections, the biggest state in the country will see a non-BSP, non-SP government after decades as there seems to be no stalling the Modi wave that saw the BJP winning over 70 seats in the 2014 General elections.
