CBSE UGC Net 2017: After scrapping the July round of NET this year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced its date as November 5, 2017. This has been changed from the earlier date, November 19, according to the Indian Express. CBSE will make available a notification in detail on July 24 at its website, cbsenet.nic.in. The online application starts from August 1 and the last date to submit the form is August 30. The fee payment deadline is August 31. The exam qualifies a candidate for the post of assistant professor and enables them to conduct research on their post-graduate subject through a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). It was conducted twice every year with one round in July and the other in November.

There have been unofficial reports of the University Grants Commission (UGC) scrapping the July round altogether and NET qualifications being capped at six per cent. An official statement on the matter is awaited. The All India Students’ Association (AISA) lead a protest last week outside the UGC office against the decision to do away with the July round. Whereas according to CBSE, the two rounds have become redundant as only 17 per cent of the registered candidates appear for the exam and only four per cent of those clear it, the paper reported.
