The Supreme Court on Thursday sought response from the Centre and the recently appointed central vigilance commissioner (CVC) KV Chaudhary and vigilance commissioner (VC) TM Bhasin on allegations that the two officials do not have a clean record and their selection as India’s anti-graft watchdog violated the principles of “institutional integrity”.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu sought their response within two weeks on a PIL filed by NGO Common Cause and retired bureaucrats seeking to quash the appointments for lack of “complete non-transparency” in selection procedure.

The bench, meanwhile, asked lawyer Prashant Bhu-shan, appearing for the NGO, to file an application for seeking various records pertaining to the CVC and VC.
