Prime Ministers Narendra Modi on Saturday heaped praise on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Giving details about Sunday’s NITI Aayog meet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday heaped praise on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and said that the latter “revolutionised the agriculture sector.” Modi, who will chair the NITI Aayog’s Governing Council meet, said that the event will be an opportunity to learn about the best practices of various states. Modi added that NITI Aayog vice chairman Arvind Panagariya will speak about the way ahead for India’s rapid transformation. Praising Chouhan, Modi said Madhya Pradesh CM, “who has revolutionised the agriculture sector” in his state, will share a presentation on the roadmap to double income of farmers. The Council includes all chief ministers, NITI Aayog members and special invitees.

A presentation on the GST will also be shown during the meet. “Will chair the 3rd meeting of the @NITIAayog Governing Council tomorrow. Looking forward to wide ranging discussions on key policy issues,” the Prime Minister tweeted.  “I look forward to hearing from the state Chief Ministers on their unique developmental efforts to transform India,” he added.  He said the states have carried out reforms in many areas. “Tomorrow’s @NITIAayog meeting is an opportunity to learn best practices from each other,” he said in another tweet.  The Council, which includes all Chief Ministers, NITI Aayog’s members and special invitees, will also discuss the progress made towards the implementation towards Goods and Services Tax (GST) from July 1. “During the meeting, action taken on decisions of the earlier two meetings of the Governing Council held on February 8, 2015 and July 15, 2015 respectively will be discussed in detail,” an official statement said. This time, the day long meeting of the Council will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Council’s first meeting was held on February 8, 2015. In the meet, prime minister Modi had laid down the key mandates of NITI Aayog such as fostering cooperative federalism by addressing national issues through mutual cooperation and monitoring of important schemes and programs.
