Harpal Singh, one of the directors of Gurgaon-based Pal Infrastructure and Developers, was recently arrested and sent to six months’ civil imprisonment for non-deposit of provident fund dues for close to three years starting April, 2012.
In a release, the Gurgaon regional office of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) said the order was passed during the recovery proceedings.
“The recovery officer is taking actions for recovery of PF dues by exercising the powers conferred upon him under Section 8B of the EPF & MP Act, 1952,” it said.
As per the law, EPFO can attach and sale the movable or immovable property of the establishment and arrest of the employer and detain in prison among others.
“All the defaulting establishments are again directed to deposit EPF dues immediately to avoid coercive action, failing which legal action, as deemed fit, will be taken against them,” the regional office said.
