While addressing the meeting of NITI Aayog’s Governing Council on Sunday morning, that is also being attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-Chairman of the organisation, Dr Arvind Panagariya said NITI has been working very closely with states and is trying its best to take India forward. He added that as states work in national interest, Centre works to promote their interests. “As States work in national interest, the Centre, NITI Aayog, works to promote the interests of states. NITI has been working very closely with states & issues concerning them to take India forward,” Panagariya said.

The meeting is being chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the meeting, he will address all 13 BJP Chief Ministers on Sunday evening, according to the news agency PTI, the agenda on focus will be of ‘good governance and development’.
The Council, which includes all Chief Ministers, Niti Aayog’s members and special invitees, will also discuss the progress made towards the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from July 1. “During the meeting, action taken on decisions of the earlier two meetings of the Governing Council held on February 8, 2015 and July 15, 2015 respectively will be discussed in detail,” PTI said.
