As many as 21 passenger trains were today cancelled while 11 mail/express trains were diverted after a fire in the signalling and telecom (S&T) cables at Old Delhi railway station.
The functioning of the control panel at Old Delhi station was disrupted after 5 AM as many S&T cables got burnt in the fire which was possibly started by some miscreants, a Northern Railway official said.
The incident caused disruption of train services between Old Delhi and Shahdara stations and also hit the movement of a number of mail/express and passenger trains.
While many passengers trains were either cancelled or curtailed, 11 mail/express trains and three passenger trains were diverted.
The official said the trains had to be diverted towards Sahibabad New Delhi station.
Normal train services were restored by 7:15 PM after repairs were undertaken, he said.
