Haryana revises vehicle tax structure, cars and bikes to pay 5%, 4% now

According to the Haryana government's revised road tax structure, cars priced up to Rs. 6 lakh will be taxed at rate of 5%

According to the Haryana government’s revised road tax structure, cars priced up to Rs. 6 lakh will be taxed at rate of 5%. (PTI)

In a surprise move, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led (BJP) Haryana government today lowered road tax rates on vehicles used for both professional and personal purpose.

Following a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the government also decided to implement a simplified taxation structure to generate reliable database and save public from harassment and problems of red tapism.

According to the revised road tax structure, cars priced up to Rs 6 lakh will be taxed at rate of 5% , whereas cars priced over Rs 20 lakh will be taxed at 10%. Hence, those who wish to purchase cars up to Rs 6 lakh are likely to benefit most.

Similarly, in case of two-wheelers above the value of Rs 2 lakh, tax at the rate of 8 per cent of the value of the vehicle would be charged.

Following is the revised road tax structure in Haryana:

The revised road tax structure in Haryana for personal cars is:

Up to Rs 6 lakh: 5%

Rs 6 lakh – Rs. 20 lakh: 8%

Over Rs 20 lakh: 10%

The revised road tax structure in Haryana for two wheelers is:

Up to Rs. 0.75 lakh: 4%

Rs 0.75 lakh – Rs. 2 lakh: 6%

Over Rs 2 lakh: 8%

The revised road tax structure in Haryana for vehicles used for special purposes is:

6% of the value of vehicle would be charged as tax in case of Excavator, Loader, Backhoe, Compactor Roller, Motor Grader, Mobile Crane, Dozer, Fork Lift Truck, Self Loading Concrete Mixture, besides other category of vehicles.

1 per cent road tax for Fire Fighting Vehicle, Mobile Clinic, X-Ray Van, Library Van, Ambulance and Animal Ambulance owned by Boards, Corporations, Public Sector Undertakings of state or central government or by Red Cross Society.
