Even as the recently concluded Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit boasted signing of MoUs (memorandum of understanding) of an astronomical Rs 25,00,000 crore, the state seems to be losing its sheen as an investment paradise.

As per an Assocham study, Gujarat has registered an over 50% decline year-on-year in the proposed industrial investments received by the state in various sectors.

“Gujarat had attracted 280 investment proposals of R31,788 crore in January-September, 2014, which decreased from R69,847 crore, a y-o-y decline of 54.5% from the year-ago period,” states an analysis conducted by the department of industrial policy & promotion (DIPP) and Assocham.

“With an 8.8% share, Gujarat had ranked third in attracting total number of such FDI proposals in January-September, 2014, a decline of 15.5% from the year ago,” said DS Rawat, national secretary general of Assocham, while releasing the chamber’s analysis.
