India’s is not just a growing economy but one urbanising rapidly. The growth in income levels and urbanisation necessitate creation of robust urban infrastructure, of which efficient transportation systems form an integral part.
The Union government has drawn up several schemes to transform urban mobility systems over the next decade. This shift faces stiff challenges, however.
Grant Thornton has highlighted inadequate and inefficient public transportation infrastructure, transport emissions and poor air quality, and inadequately implemented Intelligent Transportation Systems as hurdles to be overcome if India is to usher in smart transportation.
This makes proper implementation of schemes a must.
